April Fools Day will mark one year of The Making-Box on Cork Street and one year of offering weekly live comedy shows. This month we’re stepping up our game and running two shows every other Friday. For Headliners shows, there will now be an early show (7:30 PM start) and a late show (10:00 PM start), so people with all kinds of bedtimes can get their laughs in. Here’s what’s coming:
FRI. APRIL 6 - M-B COMEDY #121: HEADLINERS FT. SARA HENNESSEY (DOUBLE-HEADER)
The Canadian Comedy Award winning Sara Hennessey is back! Her last comedy album Trouble in Saradise went #1 on iTunes in a pure triumph of glory. She’s shot three TV spots for Just for Laughs in Montreal. Need we say more? Save a spot soon!
FRI. APRIL 13 - M-B COMEDY #122: NIGHTMARE ON CORK STREET - AN IMPROVISED HORROR
Friday the 13th is the scariest day of the year for the superstitious, and this April, the scariest day in our theatre. The Making-Box Brigade will take you down a dark and terrifying path made up completely off the top of their twisted minds, and based on your even more twisted suggestions. Who lives, who dies, who knows? We sure don’t.
FRI. APRIL 20 - M-B COMEDY #123: HEADLINERS FT. BRANDON ASH-MOHAMMED (DOUBLE-HEADER)
Brandon Ash-Mohammed. Three names. Three skills . Triple threat? Yes! Comedian. Writer. Future Real Housewife of Atlanta. He's a Tim Sims Award nominated comedian, a Telefilm New Voices Award winning writer, and the reigning Jann Arden karaoke champion of the world. Not to mention, the host of The Ethnic Rainbow, Toronto's first-ever POC LGBTQ show, which sold out two shows in it's inaugural run in February.
TUES. APRIL 24 - M-B COMEDY #124: ROOKIES (M-B AMATEUR NIGHT)
You want your shot at the comedy game? Good! This is your chance to take a swing. Throw your name in the bucket and get called up as a comedy pinch-hitter. Those who just want to spectate can do that too! We also showcase some of our favourite novice local, improv, sketch and stand-up acts.
FRI. APRIL 27- M-B COMEDY #125: ROYAL CITY HEROES FT. ???
Guelph’s only improv comedy show about Guelph! Each month, we find a Guelphite worth of celebration and create improv comedy based on the awesomeness of their lives. We’ve had artists, philanthropists, executive directors and even the mayor up on our stage. Who’s coming this month? We’re just as excited to find out as you are!
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
March Break is over, and Summer is just around the bend. So where are you going to drop off your kids? Good news! You’ve got a theatre full of improv teachers ready to give your kids a summer of improv skill-building, friend-making, and oh so much fun. Whether your kids is extroverted, shy or something in between, improv develops their confidence, social skills and helps them find their inner awesomeness.
